Meg Mateo Ilasco’s home is full of personality, style and beautiful color.  I love how she mixes vintage , modern and a bit of quirkiness.  Perfection!

While in DC this last week, I couldn’t help but notice how many ceilings are painted in such detailed designs.  The ceilings in National buildings are as important as the walls and floors.  Thousands of hours must have been spent creating these beautiful murals.  Beautiful ceilings for a modern day home would include wood beams, dark colors, molding and medallions.  Even a wallpapered ceiling is an unexpected element.  If you can, play up your ceilings and have fun!

Hey friends!!!!  I’m still on the East Coast.  This weekend the hubby and I will be celebrating our anniversary in DC.  Again, apologies for disappearing this week!!  But don’t worry.  Next week I will make it up to you….I promise!!

Did I mention how the Nate Show was???  Well…..I am genuinely happy that I attended.  If anything because of the priceless relationships that were formed.  I finally got to put faces to so many bloggers that I have read for years, like Nicole, Michelle, Michelle and Jenny (who did a great recap of the show)….LOVE THEM!!  My roomie and friend Trina (who graciously let me stay with her at her bff’s beautiful home in Manhattan) and I stayed up way to late giggling like little girls.

I flew in on Tuesday Morning so I didn’t make it to the Rue launch party which I heard was FANTASTIC!  I did get to see Anne and Crystal for a moment.  Love them too.

When you watch the taping of the show, I am directly behind Emily Henderson, who did a fabulous job on her segment!

I am off to walk the streets of DC.  Did I mention that it is 97 degrees here today??  EEEEKKKKKK!

Hello, Splendor
I am happy to be apart of Blog Crawl, started by my lovely friend Beth.

Cheeze....

Author… Moi.

Boise...

Setting… Les Bois  (Boise Idaho).  I have lived in the Northwest most of my life.  I moved to Boise from Seattle 12 years ago.  I love this city.  We have so much room to grow and mature.

My men...

Characters… My hubby (see below) and my handsome 5 year old son, Ethan.

The girls...

My supermodel, Eden Jo.

BR...

The Plot… I have always LOVED interior design.  Making a space beautiful and inviting for the homeowner is a thrilling moment for me.  I designed my own bedroom when I was 10 years old and let me tell you, I was very specific with my color scheme and layout of the room.  My mom still laughs at my diva decorating ideas.  A few years after I moved to Boise, I started doing design consolations on the side.  Nothing that I am super proud of but it got my feet wet.  I became a mom which forced me to stopped consulting and focus on my kids.   (They are 14 months apart so I didn’t have much time for anything else.)  A few years went by and I started getting the itch to exercise design again.  A friend suggested that I start blogging.  I began doing it solely to give friends and family ideas.  The rest is wonderful history.  I have met and networked with SO many amazing designers, bloggers, editors and fantastic people all over the world.  Doors have opened and relationships have been formed.

The most successful relationship that came out of Simply Grove is with Elise Vaughn, owner of Brass Razoo.  (She didn’t give me permission to post a picture of her.  Silly beautiful Elise!!)  I contacted her to feature her home (which is insanely cool) and the shop on SG.  We started talking and brainstorming goals and design.  A morning breakfast date led to a business plan that would expand Brass Razoo.  I joined the team this last spring and it has been a wonderful adventure.  We both have a passion to reclaim and re purpose furniture and home decor.  I trust her style and she trusts my style.  The future of Brass Razoo is unknown but I am confident that both Elise and I will be stretched to the next level.

The Twist… Stay tuned!

Check out Megan from Beach Bungalow 8 on Monday as she Blog Crawls too!

It is going to be quiet around Simply Grove for the next few days.  I am off to NYC tonight, to attend the Nate Berkus Show!!  The audience will be full of design bloggers and their friends.  I am thrilled to be apart of this!  (Remember Nate day?  Thanks Moggit gals!)  AND I get to meet so many of my “blogging” friends.  Plus my cousins, who are in DC right now, get to attend with me!  Fun fun.

I will be back SOON!!

I am so in love with maps right now!  I received a map from The Future Mapping Company and I couldn’t happier with how it looks in my dining room.  I placed a few of my favorite milk glass and pottery pieces in a cluster under the map.  I love how the map allows the robin blue piece to pop.  Do you enjoy maps?  New or vintage?

What a fantastic week its been around the web.  Magazines were launched, ideas were birthed and designs have been revealed.  One magazine that I am pretty excited about is the second issue of Pure Green Living.  The theme throughout the pages is recycled and reclaimed.  Celine MacKay, Editor of Pure Green Living, knows the importance of re imagining and letting your creativity take over in design and food.  Make sure to take a full tour of the magazine today.  Also, check out my before and after feature on page 49 and 50.  This beauty (above) was once dark and tired.  Now it is bright and beautiful!  (It’s available at Brass Razoo along with all of the accessories and the art above.)

Another launch that you most likely have heard about is the launch of Rue Magazine.  If you are in the design world and you didn’t hear about it, were you living under a rock??  Semi kidding.  Crystal Gentilello and Anne Sage believe whole heartily in this magazine and it shows!  Many talented designers, photographers, stylists and human beings are represented in this first issue.  And the house tours are stunning!  Above is Victoria’s new home featured on pages 84-115.  I heart, I heart.  Great job ladies!!!!

Last year I dedicated this room to my Eden Jo.  Not much has changed since then.  She still loves, pink, sparkles, glitter and princesses.  But don’t let this ultra feminine girl fool you.  She needs little super hero and robot moments here and there.  She loves dirt, cows, and can take down her older brother in a wrestling match any day.  So this time, I dedicate this room to Eden Jo.

I love being able to see how people decorate with the furniture that they purchase from Brass Razoo.  Recently Abbie, who is an extremely talented gal (I featured her here), bought one of my favorite pieces in the store.  She decided to use this curvy, black side table in her bedroom.  Doesn’t it look lovely??

The black and white floral pillow on her bed is also from BR.  The black and white striped pillow is available at Abbie’s Etsy shop.

Another customer, Rachel, took this stunning piece home and placed it in her bedroom.  She purchased this tall dresser within 4 hours of me putting it out on the floor, and beat out 3 other sad customers.

We are throwing out the idea of selling on the web.  We have so many loyal fans all across the states and over the seas.  What do you think? Would you buy from Brass Razoo online? We would sell clothing designed by Elise Vaughn, vintage (AMAZING) designer clothing, one of a kind jewelry designed by Elise Vaughn, furniture, home accessories and the list may go on and on.  I will keep you all posted!
