Round Coffee Table Inspiration via simply grove

Image: My Scandinavian Home

A trend that we have loved seeing lately is round coffee tables. It’s a nice break from the rectangular tradition. Round coffee tables allow for soft lines, which look fantastic next to rectangular sofa’s. When styling a room, I like to mix up shapes. Since most items are square and rectangular, placing a round piece can break up harsh lines. We have found 6 round coffee tables, all for under $400, that will look great in any space. Check out number 3….it’s $112!!

Round Coffee Tables under $400 via Simply Grove

We’ve chosen a variety of materials and basis. If you have lots of wood in your space, you may want to choose a metal base. Or if you have lots of metal, choose wood or marble. Also, the size of your table matters. Makes sure that your table is no lower than 1-2 inches from the seat of your couch. The standard height for a table is 16-18 inches and pairs well with a typical sized couch. A higher sofa requires a taller table, one that is 20-21 inches in height. The table should be substantial enough to anchor the furniture, yet should leave room for traffic flow around both ends. The accessories should fill out the tabletop without being crowded, leaving space for everyday objects, like remotes and coffee cups.

Speaking of accessories, we’ve chosen some smaller pieces from Royal Design that can be paired well with books, plants ect…

When displaying ceramics and candles, keep to a max of two pieces per table. If you have a smaller piece, display it on a stack of books. A larger piece, place next to the stack of books.

Above is a variety of plants that can be placed on your table. Don’t worry, you don’t need a green thumb to keep most of these alive. Just google the specie and obey the instructions.

Styling Mirrors via Simply Grove

Image: How to Decorate

I often view living in a smaller house as a fun and interesting challenge. Corners can be tight and both storage and wall space are usually limited. In these instances, I essentially have to roll up my sleeves and get really creative. I do, however, have one tool in my arsenal that never seems to fail when it comes to creating the illusion of space….mirrors! Without a doubt, simply adding a mirror is one of the best ways to save an awkward entryway, lonely fireplace mantel, or cramped bedroom corner. Not to mention the fact that they come in a variety of shapes and sizes with loads of framing choices, so they make great little styling aids as well.

To see these miracle workers in action, take a look at a few of my favorite ways to incorporate mirrors into your home below…

Styling Mirrors via Simply Grove

Image: Kristofer Johnsson

Usually, we think of bathroom mirrors as being either wide and rectangular or large and round, but I can’t help being drawn to this tall, slender version. Simply leaning on the countertop, the placement of the mirror echoes the minimal feel of the rest of the room. Its towering shape also makes the ceiling height feel taller.

Styling Mirrors via Simply Grove

Image: Hemtrender

I’m always such a fan of huge round mirrors in an entryway, especially styled over a low-profile bench like this one. For tight entries, or even spacious ones in larger homes, this really is the best way to bring in lots of light and interest from adjoining rooms.

Styling Mirrors via Simply Grove

Image: Sarah Sherman Samuel

Sometimes a mirror can be the most interesting focal point in the entire room. This “porcupine quill” version is a terrific example. It’s perfect for a small entryway but would work just as beautifully over a fireplace mantel, too.

Image: Almost Makes Perfect

Full-length mirrors are often reserved for closets, but why pass up the chance to add tons of visual interest to your bedroom? These tall leaning versions are my favorite way to do just that. They’re the best solution for those awkward wall spaces or corners where nothing else seems to fit.

Styling Mirrors via Simply Grove

Plants, books, and candles aren’t the only objects for styling shelves. Sometimes a strategically placed mirror, like this simple round version, is just the right thing. I’m loving the way the reflective surface breaks up the opaqueness of all the dark planters. Magic, I tell ya.

Add molding and trim to your home for a rich, tasteful look. via Simply Grove

This post was sponsored by Metrie. All opinions are my own. Thank you
for allowing me to continue to do what I love and share what I love!

I remember a client recently asked me what I thought was the most important detail in a space. My response was simple. It’s the finishing work. Architectural elements create a look that simple styling cannot create. Whether you’re living in a craftsmen style or a mid-century, the finishing details are a must. Interior finishings include trim, interior doors, wall treatments, ceiling treatments and mantels – all of which significantly impact the overall impression of a room or space.

We are currently working on our family room/great room and we need to add baseboards after finishing the concrete. At the moment, it looks super unfinished. It’s driving my crazy! It doesn’t matter how good the furnishings and accessories are, it looks unfinished.

One company that can help in any size of renovations is Metrie. Since 1926 Metrie™ has transformed spaces with exquisitely crafted architectural trim. Have you walked into a room to immediately see beautiful trim, crown moldings, and interior doors? Those finishing touches that make a room beautiful and stylish is what they make. It’s like adding the perfect shoes to your outfit. Without them, the clothing can look a little blah. Metrie believes every detail is as important as the next, and they go to great lengths to ensure that from the time we acquire raw materials to the time our product is installed and enjoyed, it meets the highest standards for quality and design.

Add molding and trim to your home for a rich, tasteful look. via Simply Grove

This wainscot moulding from the Then & Now Finishing Collection is everything! It has created a rich look in this space. Isn’t it amazing how one detail can enhance the accessories and furnishings so beautifully? This is why they have put the emphasis on details. Molding is a perfect way to enhance the the ceiling the walls and even the fireplace. I have already picked out all of my favorites in the Metrie’s Collections. I would lean towards the Fashion Forward Collection. Which is your favorite? If you don’t have a clue but would love to find out, take this style quiz to help you match your personal style with one of Metrie’s collections.

If you are wanting to use trim in a creative way to add some major awesomeness to your space, I have some suggestions—-

1. Paint the trim a darker color than the walls for some contrast.

2. Create a pattern using trim on the ceiling or walls.

3. Use thick crown molding in a small space for a wow factor.

4. Paint the trim and the wall one dark moody color.

Kirsten Grove's Breakfast Nook gets a sparkly makeover, thanks to @methodhome. #fearnomess

As most kids do, my kids love to make messes. No joke. Everywhere they walk, a mess appears. When we moved into our home, we didn’t have any places for them to sit and eat or work on homework. We quickly created a breakfast nook for them, and of course within hours, a mess appeared. And on top of that, because we are renovating as we live in the home, messes are all around us.

I teamed up with method for their Fear No Mess campaign. I must say that I am slowly getting over the fact that my home is in constant disarray. I had to get over myself and over the idea of toys, coloring books AND renovating dust being constant visitors in my home. I had to relax and enjoy every moment with my kids without stressing out about something that won’t matter at the end of my life.

One of our recent projects has been the breakfast nook. It’s become the perfect little spot for the kids to eat their snacks or work on their art projects.

We paired our existing bertoia chairs with a Herman Millar table. We also added a simple Kure shelf from Rove Concept to display my pottery collection. And of course, the Electric Objects digital art is still our favorite!

To break in this area, Ethan and I got out our big box of coloring crayons, sat down and enjoyed some coloring bonding moments. In the end, method helped me clean up and move on. My favorite method smell is the Grapefruit. It smells clean and natural, which I am smell obsessed so this is important to me. Something else that I’m obsessed with is that method products are biodegradable, made from recycled materials and are 100% recyclable. YAY!

Patio Makeover via Simply Grove

We’ve been working hard over at our house these past few weeks. Our latest projects have been the family room, the man cave (can’t wait for you to see this room!) and we start on the kitchen next week. I’ve haven’t been showing you pictures because we want you to get the full tour which is on the first webisode, coming your way shortly.

One room that you have seen lots of is the patio. It was one of the first spaces that we finished and so far it’s our fave! I’ve had some inquiries lately about our patio. Most questions have been about the patio furniture, specifically the dining set and rug. I’m excited to share with you these sources!

Patio Before via simply grove

You can see that the patio before needed some TLC. You cannot get better bones for an outdoor living space than this, so it was easy to transform it. It truly feels like an outdoor/indoor space, which has been my dream to own one day.

patio makeover via simply grove

We started by painting the brick black and the wood white (more on that later). I wanted to create a dining space and a loungy space, so we divided the patio into two zones. Because the patio already had an outdoor kitchen, it was easy to decide what should go where. We places the dining set in front of the kitchen and placed the living furniture near the large windows of the house. (See dining set source below.)

Patio Makeover via Simply Grove

This is my favorite part of the space!

I partnered with ATGStores.com for the majority of the furniture and accessories I paired these pieces with existing pieces that I already owned.

Let me start out by highlighting these awesome butterfly chairs from ATGStores. The covers are washable, which is a must when you’re dealing with outside! The black and white outdoor rug, also from ATGStores, is also hand washable. We’ve already spilled chocolate on it and it wiped right up with warm water and soap. Yay!

Patio Makeover via Simply Grove

Now for the big question…where is your dining table from? ATGStores! Isn’t it the best?? This 7 piece dining set comes in 4 different colors. I chose dove grey, but I love all of the options. The best part about this set is how sturdy it is. I am sure this will be something that we will be using for years to come!

Like I said before, I paired all of the new pieces with existing pieces that I already owned, like this vintage coffee table and indoor sofa. I actually cover the sofa every night so that the squirrels don’t poop on it…:)

The key to a well styled patio is lots of potted plants! I will most likely keep adding to this space. It makes the whole area feel friendly yet modern. And because we haven’t done any landscaping yet, it helps make the space feel green. And also, don’t be afraid to mix metals and woods in an outdoor space. It keeps the area from feeling to matchy matchy.

Accent your home with greens via SimplyGrove

Image: Design Attractor

Green has been all the rage for quite some time now. It’s a color that looks fabulous from one end of the spectrum to the other. From mint green to kelly green. Nearly every hue is breathtaking.

If you’re aiming to keep your furniture with basic colors, go all out on an accent wall. In this case the wall is deep hunter green with plants that are deep green. This tie’s everything together.

Accent your home with greens via SimplyGrove

Image: Studded Hearts

I know it may seem difficult to commit to colorful large piece of furniture, but in many cases it works! This bench is the focal point of this room and everything surrounding it is simple. When styling around a large statement piece, don’t feel like you have to add the color everywhere. That’s when it starts looking cheesy.

If you’re not convinced to integrate green in large capacities, start small. Pillows are a great example with starting minimal and eventually committing to more. You can easily store pillows away or rotate them around your home.

Now if you are a lover of the green world and are looking to fill your space with a plethora of green inspired furniture and accessories, be sure to leave your walls bare and minimal.

And if you desire deep green walls, materials like bronze, gold and copper compliment just about any green.

How to style a small space via simply grove

Decorating a small space is no small task. You have to get tricky and smart to make a space feel bright, open and functional. Especially when it’s a smaller room. I always say that less is more and white walls are right walls. The darker you go and the more busy the decor is, the smaller the space is going to feel. Head over to Society6 to see more of my tips on how to decorate a small space!

Summer Dining Via Simply Grove

Image: Style Me Pretty

‘Tis the season for outdoor entertaining! Seriously, this is the part of summer that I look forward to all year long. Once the kids are out of school and the evenings magically turn balmy and breezy, we jump at the chance to enjoy our dinners in the backyard. Especially with a group of our closest friends. Maybe it’s the longer days, or perhaps it’s the slowing of busy schedules, but something about these summer nights always sets me at ease and puts a huge smile on my face. And, honestly, how could it not? Good food, great people, a beautifully set table…it’s the best, am I right?

To gear up for the summer entertaining season, I’ve gathered up a few swoon-worthy table settings that have me daydreaming about future get togethers and parties. If you, too, are needing some inspiration keep reading below…

West Elm Boise's Soft Opening via Simply Grove

Last night we celebrated West Elm’s soft opening in Boise. We are excited to welcome West Elm in this beautiful city of ours! And as far as I can tell, West Elm is excited to be here. The store layout is perfect and the location is even better. I am thrilled to have another option here for local clients!

West Elm was kind enough to give several local influencers tours of the store yesterday, before the soft opening. The overall consensus is that this location is AWESOME! I couldn’t agree more. If you’re local to Boise, make sure to pop in today as it’s the grand opening! 824 W. Idaho St

Roar & Rabbit via Simply Grove

As if West Elm couldn’t get any cooler, earlier this year the furniture company teamed up with up-and-coming design firm Roar + Rabbit to launch their first collection of home goods. Based out of Philadelphia, the design duo consists of Mitzie Wong and Wendy Wurtzburger — both former veterans of the Anthropologie corporate world (no wonder I’m crushing on their work!). Described as “modern style with whimsical details”, the collection spans the gamut from furniture to bedding to eclectic art pieces. Personally, I’m loving the quirky design elements featured in their pieces such as pleating, brass inlays, and strong geometric shapes. The outcome is soft yet bold, echoing the firm’s clever title. This talented team is certainly one to watch and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next! If you’re interested in checking out the entire collection, you can see it here. Statement Art via Simply Grove. Written by Mindy Bucklew

Image: Design Sponge

Keeping with the art discussion from last week, today we’re talking statement art! And when I say “statement art” I mean large prints, photographs, paintings, drawings…you name it. It just has to be BIG. This is a terrific way to add high impact, drama, and creativity to any space in one fell swoop. Plus, artwork is one of the best methods for putting your own personal stamp on your home. It can speak volumes about your interests and sense of style.

Larger art pieces can often come at a high price, especially when adding in framing costs, but, in my humble opinion, this is one of those instances where the splurge is definitely worth it. I think of good art in the same way I think of fine, high-quality rugs — they become heirloom pieces passed down through families, they can easily be switched out and stored away for later use, and if properly cared for they will last for years and years to come. However, if you are looking for more affordable options, Joanna Goddard from A Cup of Jo recently wrote a blog on this very subject and offers up a ton of great sources.

As for some styling inspiration, here are a few of my current faves….

It’s no secret that I love a good animal print. This high contrast version works so well against the clean white walls and wooden bench of this entryway.

A bold graphic print really takes this living room, with its simple neutral palette, to the next level. When opting for such a strong art piece, there’s really no need for patterned pillows or a multicolored rug. The print is clearly the star of the show.

How serene is this fluffy cloud print in a modern gray bedroom? The result is dramatic and elegant without feeling overly fancy.

There’s a lot going on in this dining room, but somehow it works because the patterns and colors aren’t competing with one another. It’s eclectic done right, with a decidedly mid century feel.

Even home offices need artwork, too. The place where we work and think creatively should be a constant source of inspiration. I say what better way than to add that inspiration to the walls?

Get backyard BBQ ready with Ace via Simply Grove

With our renovation underway, our home is a disaster. A clean disaster, but still, it’s a wreck! We needed one space to retire to during these hot summer months. Ace Hardware approached me about partnering to get our backyard bbq ready and I quickly said yes! I had already devised a plan for what furniture and feel I wanted for this space. One of the items that was and is a necessity for us is a gas bbq. I have always loved the look of Weber grills. They are clean and modern. And the color choices are always on point! Ace Hardware’s local teams can deliver AND install these grills in your home. This installation service is brand new and brilliant for our summer needs.

Get backyard BBQ ready with Ace via Simply Grove

Our new home has a built in kitchen area, which is great for prepping food. The grill part that you see is just a charcoal grill, so a gas grill was needed. I chose the dark green option because I love green and I didn’t want to choose something predictable for this space. Plus this gorgeous green fits right in with all of the luscious greens showcased in our backyard.

The process was quite simple for the installation. They came right to our front door, unloaded the bbq in the backyard, gave us a simple tutorial and that was that! It didn’t take up any time and was easy peasy.

Here is an EASY DIY for your summer potting needs!

I’m sure you have lots of flowers and plants to pot, and pots are not the cheapest. So find some inexpensive options and spray paint them whatever color you desire. I wanted to stick with black because I knew I was going to mix and match with more natural ceramics. So I chose a planter with some texture and spray painted it black using Krylon black satin. Um, SO EASY!! Anyone can do it.

Rug Inspiration for the Living Room via Simply Grove by Mindy Bucklew

Image: Apartment 34

So…I’m in a bit of a design dilemma at the moment. We recently got rid of the large area rug in our living room because (A) it got ruined, and (B) we didn’t really love it enough to pay for it to be professionally cleaned. I’ve actually been wanting to switch it out with something new for a few years now, so you’d think I’d be looking forward to this moment, right?? I thought so, too! Wrong. Oddly enough, as I sit here staring at the huge empty space on my floor I find myself feeling more overwhelmed than elated. It isn’t that I don’t know what I want. Believe me, I’ve got a running list of favorites in my head right now. The problem is that I just….can’t….decide. So many choices! And I am admittedly one of the most indecisive individuals ever, especially when it comes to big purchases. I know, kind of embarrassing considering I write for a design blog. But there you have it — the sad truth.

So while I continue pondering the options for who knows how long, read on to find out which rugs made my list and why…

Rug Inspiration for the Living Room via Simply Grove by Mindy Bucklew

Image: Amber Interiors

I’ve never thought of myself as a vintage rug type of girl, but here I am, crushing on them hard. Especially this kilim version. The mix of colors may seem like too much to some, but that is precisely why this rug pairs well with just about anything. Plus, the flat weave makes it super easy to clean. Music to my ears.

Rug Inspiration for the Living Room via Simply Grove by Mindy Bucklew

Image: My Domaine

Another beautiful yet low maintenance option is the sisal rug. Natural fiber rugs like this one are a great choice for high traffic areas (I’m looking at you, kiddo shoes and pet hair). Literally, they can take a beating and still look fresh and clean. If you’re pairing this with other neutrals, punch up the space with bright accents, such as artwork and pillows, to keep things from feeling to bland.

Rug Inspiration for the Living Room via Simply Grove by Mindy Bucklew

Image: Adored Vintage

What’s not to love about a good Moroccan rug? They’re versatile, textural, and super soft under foot. Take heed, though, this version is not the easiest to keep clean. If opting for this rug choice, consider some preemptive measures like applying a teflon coating and yearly steam cleanings from a professional. A little bit of maintenance can keep your rugs looking great for years to come.

Rug Inspiration for the Living Room via Simply Grove by Mindy Bucklew

Image: Jaclyn Campanaro

I think I’m convinced that cowhide rugs have magical powers. Seriously, I’ve never seen a well-designed space where I thought, “Hmm, they shouldn’t have put that cowhide there”. The warm color variations are always so visually interesting and the free form shape works well in living rooms big and small. Also, they’re great for layering over other rugs if you’re going for a dimensional look.

Rug Inspiration for the Living Room via Simply Grove by Mindy Bucklew

Image: Design Sponge

Last, but not least, the distressed Persian rug….the more faded the better. Much like the bright kilims, the lovely mix of colors in these rugs works amazingly well with rich neutrals, such as black and camel brown, yet the result is a little more luxe and refined. This choice is a true style chameleon, looking just as perfect in a modern setting as it does in the traditional.

Electric Objects via Simply Grove

If you could compare just one home accessory with shoes, it would be art. Just as shoes can make or break an outfit, art can make or break a room. I am constantly changing out art in my home. Whether my mood shifts or I’m just rearranging a space, art is being moved around a lot!

Let me introduce you to something amazeballs! Electric Objects is a digital art platform with a mission to put digital art on the walls of every home. EO1 was created as an internet-connected screen that can play video, animations, high definition images, or web-based work. It comes in black or white and can be mounted on the wall or sit on a shelf/table with their stand.

Through their app, you can enjoy hundreds of original works of art made for EO1. They’ve partnered with artists like Björk, YACHT, and Sandra Gramm. You can now also find classic works from museums like LACMA, the National Gallery of Art, the Rijksmuseum, and more. They’re adding collections every week and you can also upload and display your own artwork.

When I first learned about Electric Objects, my brain quickly thought of 20 different places that I wanted to display this brilliant invention. In the end I chose our new breakfast nook (which you can see sneak peeks above and below). It’s displayed on a wall that is noticeable from the front entrance. The set up was a breeze!! The fun part is that I can literally change the art on the hour, depending on my mood. My kids love it too because they feel like little art curators. Eden picks the classics while Ethan chooses quirky photography.

Electric Objects via Simply Grove

Electric Objects via Simply Grove

In the app, you’ll see an area where you can view what everyone else with an EO1 is currently displaying on their screen. In this area, you’ll see both what people have uploaded and are displaying in addition to what Art Club pieces they are displaying. You’ll be able to follow other users whose art picks you like. And if you see an image you like, just tap on it and tap “display” to show it on your EO1 even if it’s a work they’ve uploaded themselves.

Electric Objects via Simply Grove

So really, for only $299, you are gaining hundreds of pieces of art. I think that is well worth the price.

Inspired by blue via simply grove

Image: Mandarin Stone

Do you know what color constantly inspires me? I guess you’ve already figured it out by looking at the title of this post. But just in case you didn’t notice, BLUE! Have you ever wondered how to use blue in your own home? It’s easier than you think. Blue has become the new neutral. You can pair blue with almost any other color. It’s soothing yet sophisticated. And depending on the tone of blue, you can create a room that feels bold. We chose to paint my sons room a deep deep blue. It took the small space and made it unbelievably cool!

There are so many options to choose from when using blue. Right now I am inspired by the deep tones of blue. Light blues feel refreshing and clean. Dark feels dramatic and playful. I’m a fan of all blues! Be inspired by these spaces that use blue either in big ways or small ways.
