Novogratz Rug via Simply Grove

When I first saw our now home, I fell in LOVE with what is now called “the man cave”. The teak and shingle walls created a unique approach to this square space. I also appreciate the high ceilings that create a wide and open space. When styling this room, I wanted to keep it low key and comfortable. One piece that keeps this room casual yet stylish is this gray skull rug from The Novogratz. The gray tones are on point while the pattern is subtle and cool. Also the price…the price is pretty perfect! Shop the rest of the room below.

Mill Heaters via Simply Grove

Our home was built in 1957 with some additions built in the 60’s or 70’s. We’re not exactly sure the specific date, but the family room, man cave and our master bedroom were all add ons. You can definitely tell that our bedroom was an add on. Mostly because of the difference in flooring windows and the brick on the exterior. Another big factor is that it is FREEZING! We are quickly noticing that the temperature difference is quite drastic. To keep myself from becoming an ice cube, we began hunting for an alternative heating option. Mill quickly became a front runner.

Mill was founded on the idea that with people’s increasing interest in home interior, there should be heaters that better match these modern homes in comparison to the traditional and old-fashioned heaters. I completely agree! These heaters are stylish, beautiful and give out all the heat one needs.
Mill was founded in Norway in 1992 and has evolved since. Now you can shop these through Bed Bath & Beyond, Wayfair, Amazon and Costco.

Modern Christmas via Simply Grove

Via Cate St Hill

Tis the season for decorating! Christmas is just around the corner and holiday decorations are quickly going up. Instead of breaking out your usual traditional Christmas garb, it might be time to consider a more modern approach to styling for the holiday season. While traditions are typically familiar and comfortable, sometimes it’s refreshing to break them. So swap out your go-to festive gear for soft lights, natural materials, shiny metal, and pale hues for the fresh, modern Christmas that you’ve been dreaming of!

Bring Simplicity To The Table

Dining tables tend to be the focal point for the Christmas season, making them also a crucial styling space. When planning the design of your table, think less is more. Pick your favorite materials and colors and run with it. Natural materials and textures, metals, greenery, and ceramics are all great for the modern look. Add touches of brass with vintage, mid-century candlesticks. If you prefer . Bring the outdoors in by adding winter foliage. Twisted hazel stems, heather, statice, red berries are all stunning options. Want to add some warmth to your minimalist dining display? Give your seating some extra comfort by adding sheepskins and plush velvet cushions for a wonderful modern Nordic look.

Be Selective With Your Wreath

Wreaths are one of the most recognizable Christmas motifs. The holidays wouldn’t be the same without them. Instead of doing away with these beloved displays of lush greenery, tone them down a notch for a more modern take. If you want to fully embrace the minimal approach, pair an eye-catching metal like gold or copper with some simple touches of greenery. To add a little bit more, dress your wreath up with a single light chain or tuck in some dark purple astilbe, baby’s breath, or soft ruscus for a festive pop of color.

Embrace Tree Alternatives

If you’re someone who hates clutter and wants to avoid the mess of constantly having to clean up pine needles, then opting for a Christmas tree alternative might be for you. There are so many out-of-way modern replacements to the traditional tree. Create your very own tree make-shift tree wall hanging out of some loose garlands. Build a modern-looking wooden tree frame like this incredible one at Ikea. Add a tree shaped shelf to your wall. These sustainable and tasteful alternatives can be used again and again.

Use Your Walls

Don’t forget about your walls when decorating. Adding festive statement pieces to a gallery wall or as a stand-alone vignette is amazing for integrating your own personal style a seasonal mood. Subtle and tasteful hints of festivity are the way to go when decorating for a modern Christmas.

Tone Down The Tree

If you want to give your Christmas tree a more modern look, the key is simplifying. When picking out your perfect tree, keep in mind that sparser trees work great for achieving that modern minimalist aesthetic. Using fewer ornaments or ones that follow a similar style or color palette will have your Christmas centerpiece looking fresh and chic. If you are having a hard time staying true to a style, try focusing on a monochrome or neutral color scheme with mixed metal pieces or ceramic ornaments. Store your tree in a terracotta pot, wooden crate, or woven basket for the perfect mix of modern Scandi and rustic charm. If you prefer to keep some traditional touches, use a geo-inspired textile or cozy fur statement tree skirt to add some pops of color and pattern.

#ReinventGiving with @hp via Simply Grove

I had the chance to review the new HP Spectre laptop, and I have to say that I am so impressed! It’s form and function is on point. But this post isn’t about how I received it for myself. It’s about giving it away to someone very special to me.

My mom, who was a single mom for some time during my childhood, was and is selfless, hardworking and consistent in her love for my brothers and I. She got her teaching degree when I was in JH, while still working to provide for us. She taught me that no matter my age or circumstance, if I worked hard enough, I could achieve anything.

When my mom decided to go back to school, she knew right away that she wanted to be a teacher. She has taught now for many years, and her students have always been very lucky to have her. The Spectre x360 is a perfect fit for her lifestyle. The long battery is an added bonus for when she is at school for long hours of the day, and the touch screen makes it so easy for her to navigate around the screen. It’s the little things that can add up and make life easier.

My mom has been using an older computer that is both chunky and slow. It wasn’t helping her lifestyle in anyway. The Spectre x360 will add value to her life in a meaningful way. It will also allow her to get work done in half of the time that it was taking her before.

The best thing about giving the Spectre x360 to my mom is that it’s a gift that she will use almost every day. For me, this holiday season is all about gift giving with a purpose. I want to bless my friends and family with items that they will use time after time. The Spectre X360 is one of those gifts that will not go unused.

Watching her open this gift was so fun. She isn’t the type to go out and buy herself a new computer. She would rather spend the money on her grandkids or kids. HP is all about reinventing giving. For me that involves doing something that makes a mark in someone else’s life. If that means that my mom can create a better life for herself by simply having a Spectre x360, than I am all about that!
