Dining Room Makeover For The Holidays

Via Simply Grove

You guys! Christmas is only 15 days away! How in the world did that happen? I’m still over here eating Halloween candy and lighting pumpkin candles. In all honesty, I do really feel behind on Christmas. So much to do with so little time. But I am trying to rise to the occasion and celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. The first thing on my list was to give my mom a dining room refresh, perfect for the holidays. With the help of Overstock.com, we created a stylish dining room that is perfect for entertaining guests and family! My mom works so hard and deserves the world. She has been a single mom since I was 11 years old. Her home needs to reflect how loving and kind she is. We tackled her bedroom a few months ago, and now moved on to the dining space.

First off, she is renting her home, so we couldn’t do anything structural, or even with paint. You can see below that the room was a basic cream box.

The furniture was basic and mismatched, so I wanted to bring definition. I also wanted to add window treatments that fit the size and height of the space, along with new lighting and art. Thanks to quick shipping and plenty of options at Overstock, the makeover itself did not take much time at all and is ready just in time for the holidays! That’s the beauty of changing all of the cosmetics. It basically took one late night of assembly and installing. I love the transformation!

I think that my favorite part about this room refresh is the chandelier. It’s such a stunning piece! And because the room is smaller, the light became the focal point. It also is the perfect size for above the new round dining table, which is another favorite piece. Honestly, the table’s base is the coolest one that I’ve seen in a long time, and the shape and movement looks custom, while the wood looks really expensive. Win win!

Because the table is a bit more sophisticated, I chose these mid-century inspired dining chairs for the perfect pairing of two great wood tones. Plus, they add a ton of character and make the setting cozy and inviting.

One thing that I love about a room refresh is that you can pick pieces that go well with items you already love. In this room, we used my mom’s existing buffet and a few art pieces. They all have meaning for my mom and they all fit in perfectly with the rest of the design!

One of my must haves for a dining space is a signature chandelier, and this one  floats on a cloud in this space, don’t you think? And at night it gives off great lighting, which was important because there is no recessed lighting in this room.

Setting the perfect table is an added plus, especially around Christmas time. I chose pieces that can mix well with all colors and textures. I also chose a table runner instead of a tablecloth so that the gorgeous wood can still be seen!

An easy trick for setting the perfect table for the holidays is adding garland in the middle and then displaying candlestick holders throughout – it’s beautiful without getting in the way of the meal!

I love the gold infused napkins! They are cheery and stylish.

Last but not least – how gorgeous is this rug? I love the year-round pop of color it will bring to the room once all of the holiday decorations are put away.

Honestly, I would have brunch in this space every day and can’t wait to enjoy it with my mom this Christmas!!
