Sunday Inspiration {Pretty Fireplace}…

Happy Sunday, friends! I hope that you are having an enjoyable weekend! I got slammed with the stomach flu on Friday. Thankfully I’m feeling mucho better today. It was one of those sicknesses that came out of nowhere and totally threw off my schedule. Oh well. I’ll just put it in turbo next week.

I thought that this fireplace would be a good Sunday inspiration for us all. Calming, classic and whimsical.

One Man’s Shop…

I was just in Vegas this week, working on a design project and visiting my cousins. While there, my cousin took me to her favorite furniture and decor shop. I totally know why it’s her fave! One Man’s Shop is the perfect mix of mid century, re-claimed, organic, modern goodness! I was drooling over a set of authentic Knoll Platner chairs as well as a 360 degree swivel chair designed by the great Adrian Pearsall. I’m pretty sure that if I lived in Vegas, I’d be broke because of this shop.

If you’re in the area, you must go. If not, you can shop their Etsy shop. They’ve got some goodies over there!

Inspiration {White & Wood Kitchen}…

Kitchens are the heart of the home. I never really knew what that ment until we started entertaining and cooking more. Now I know exactly what that means. We have an alley kitchen that is very narrow. Even with a full house, people find themselves hanging out in our tiny kitchen. Now since we rent, we have to be ok with our cabinets and countertops  To be honest, my kitchen is not my fave. I am naturally drawn to white kitchens. They are bright, cheery and easy to want to cook in. I need that! One quick decorating trick for keeping a white kitchen from looking sterol is to add wood. Whether it’s wood accessories, countertops, beams…wood is the trick of the trade. My favorite detail to add to a kitchen (my clients know this very well) is to add 2 white ceramic jars and fill one with a variety of stainless steel utensils and the other with wooden utensils. It’s a practical trick that looks super cool. You can see an example in the first image.

What’s your favorite kitchen design?

My Home Resolutions…

When the New Year approached us, I was super excited to take down my Christmas decor, spring clean and organize each room. It’s funny how before Christmas, I was already sad thinking about taking the tree down but once New Years hit, I was beyond ready! My goal for 2013 (when it comes to my house) is to create a comfortable haven that people can relax in. Sometimes homes can be too stiff and perfect. I don’t want that. I want each room to have a story to tell. I don’t want my guests to feel like they can’t have fun. I want to mix unexpected patterns and display copper with silver. I also want to entertain like a crazy lady. Relationships have become beyond important to me and I don’t want to leave this world wishing that I had spent more time with friends and family. I’m ready to a have a really fun year, in my home.

Do you have any New Years resolutions for your home??

OneFortyThree…

I have a slight obsession with lighting. It’s one of those elements that if overlooked, can destroy the feel of a space. My nightmare is that can lights are the only lights legal to use. NOOOOOOO!

When first seeing OneFortyThree’s lighting on Instagram, I was floored. Each piece is modern, unique and transitional. I recently used the desk lamp (above) for a design project. It fits the space perfectly. Logan Hendrickson, designer behind OneFortyThree, started making lighting and furniture because him and his new wife were in need if pieces for their new home. From there, his brand has evolved. I’m pretty sure that we will be hearing lots from Logan.

As you can see you will find not only lighting but some insanely cool chairs and accessories. I think that I will take one of each!

Shop all of these at OneFortyThree.

From the past…

Yesterday I was flipping through some of my old Blueprint issues (COME BACK BLUEPRINT) and stumbled upon this beauty. I remember this space always being a favorite of mine. And now looking at it, I realize that I still love this home. Owned by Suzanna Bierwirth of Binth, this home is full of pretty details, modern elements and organic touches. It has a timeless charm that I’m trying to execute in my own home. I’m in love with the fireplace vignette and of course that sparkling kitchen. It makes me wonder what Suzanna’s home looks like today. I’m sure it’s fantastic.

Let’s have fun…

Well friends, I’m officially back from the holidays! It felt so good to take a few days off to reflect on life and have some good old fashioned fun. I feel refreshed and ready for the new year! I have some goals that I’m planning on running after this year, including some big goals for Simply Grove. I started this blog as a platform to share design and decor that I love. It will always be a place where you can find design inspiration but I want to take it further this year. I want to challenge myself as a designer and become more vulnerable with all of you. In that you will see a few things happen more often. More personal posts, personal design projects, guest bloggers and collaborations with other designers to name a few. I love design so much and I can only imagine how much you all love it. So let’s have fun this year!!!! xxoo

2013…

This past year has been amazing, challenging, fun, fulfilling  full of highs and some lows. All in all, I am so grateful and thankful that I’m surrounded by people that I love. I am also thankful that I’m not doing life alone. I can’t imagine sacrificing relationships for success. My friends and family mean way too much to me.

I hope and pray that you are able to look back at 2012 and feel a sense of happiness and accomplishment. If not, 2013 is a new year full of the best possibilities!!!

Cheers to 2013!!!!!!!!!

{Bison} & Bye for now…

I have a giant bison on my wall. Mr. Bill (we always name our animals. dead or alive.) may look real but he’s a decal. He comes from Walls Need Love and I have to say, he’s added some major love to our wall. You will find a huge selection of taxidermy decals over at Walls Need Love and much more. The taxidermy trend has been around for a few years now and seems to be going strong. For those of you who haven’t wanted to invest in a real piece, this is your answer! Shop Bison Bill and more at Wall Need Love.

This is my last post before the holidays begin. I am going to take some time off to be with family and friends. I’ll be back for the New Years and my plan is to come back recharged and refreshed. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and forget what life is really all about. I never want to get to that place. My dear friend Erin Loechner wrote the most beautiful post today about just that. It’s a must read!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! xxoo

Inspiration {Simplicity}…

I really love the simplicity of Melanie Blodgett’s bedroom seen on Design* Sponge. The pop of green in that chair is perfection next to the white wall and simple headboard. I have had the bug to redo our bedroom the last few months but time hasn’t been on my side. Once Christmas break hits, I might just start this project. One piece that I really want to swap is our bed and headboard. We shall see I guess!
