The kitchen is easily one of the most notoriously clutter-prone spaces in the home. We all are guilty of getting a little lazy and jamming our dishware and cooking supply in just any free cabinet space. Not only does a messy and disorganized kitchen stress us out, it also inhibits the space’s functionality as well as its aesthetic. In order to give us all a little project kickstart for the new year, I have a few tips to make 2017 the year we all finally get our kitchens organized.
Get creative with how and where you keep your cooking and home goods. Hang mugs from hooks to create more room in your cabinets. Insert dividers and trays in pull-out drawers and your cabinets to keep your flatware organized and in the right space at all times. Attach hanging containers to a metal rod on your kitchen wall or backsplash to store dish soap and other cleaning supplies in a convenient and out of the way spot. Place what you most often use at eye level where it is easily accessible and hard to lose track off. For items you use less frequently, store them up high, and your heavier appliances and supplies low.
Make Decluttering A Habit

Like any area of your home, you tend to accumulate plenty of unwanted and unnecessary things in your kitchen over the years. Get into the habit of getting rid of duplicates, items that are beyond repair, or pieces that you find yourself never using. Space is valuable and filling it with unusable and redundant things only creates more of a mess. Whether it’s a yearly purge or the weekly tidy up, make sure to be mindful with how you use your space and what you store in it.
Label, Label, Label
Creating clear labels and categories for your belongs to give yourself a neater, more streamlined kitchen. Establishing a permanent home for your items based on functionality (baking supplies, snacks, spices, etc.) will make it a lot easier to locate and use your space to its full potential.
