A Holiday withHEART

Today I am participating in “A Holiday with HEART”– a blog tour hosted by my beautiful friend, Jennifer Stagg. A group of us bloggers are sharing our holiday decor AND some of the meaning behind it. Check out Sunny Side Up who was first up today on the tour.

Christmas is my absolute favorite. It’s like that Christmas song “I’m too old to be so excited”. Sometimes my husband wonders if I’m more excited than the kids are! There’s just so much love, peace and cheer… I can’t contain myself.

Traditions are really a magical thing. I’m a firm believer that traditions are what makes a family special in their own way. We have this tradition every Christmas Eve where we come together with our extended family. We enjoy a variety of soups that everyone contributes too and we sing carols around a grand piano and a fire. The kids love being with their cousins and it’s just a joyous time to be together and celebrate. By the time we make it home it’s late and my husband and I let our kids open one gift. It’s pajamas and although they know this, they still open with so much eagerness. A gift is a gift even if it’s repeated year after year. So they lay down with their new Pj’s and barely sleep because of Christmas morning excitement.

One specific tradition that has really touched us every year is we choose a child to sponsor from foster care. Once a child is chosen the kids get to shop for their gifts. It’s always amazing to see the excitement in their faces and they have the best time picking out the presents.

We end our Christmas evening with taking a family ride around the city. Cruising around our streets with hot coco and snacks to look at all the beautiful lights each year is something the kids look forward too. It’s the perfect way to take everything in and reflect on the holiday season.

  1. Christmas is the best time of the year for me! Don’t worry if you are sometimes as excited as your children are – this can only make your holiday better! Happy holidays 🙂

  2. I love this so much– and I love you! Thank you so much for sharing. Love the soup tradition– so fun! And I love the spirit of giving you teach your kids, and really have year round. xx

  3. Traditions are so important during the holidays! Decorating with evergreens is also an easy way to make things festive without going overboard. It’s also much easier to clean up after the holidays are over.
