Get your zen face on because we are exploring the Japanese Modern aesthetic this week. When I think Japanese Modern I think about getting zened-out either soaking in a tub or laying in bed. I’ve been running and traveling round so much lately that my bed has become my best friend. So, I have decided that we are going to explore this aesthetic in the bedroom.
wood
You’ll find a theme of naturals in the Japanese aesthetic. A great jumping off point is adding natural (and light) wood to your bedroom. Try adding a wooden bookcase, a bed frame, and/or a plywood accent wall.
light
Via Dwell
Natural light (theres the natural theme again) is so important to incorporate into your space. If you must have window treatments keep them sheer and light in color. Bonus points if your window frame is wood.
Minimal
Via Norm Architects
Get rid of the junk. Bare floors and minimal decor for the win.
nature
Nature nature nature, bring it in and let it shine. Add Japanese style plants like bonsai trees, cherry blossoms, bamboo, and orchids.
bed
Via Ese Studio
Keep that bed lowww to the ground and fitted with a soft comforter.
shoji screen
Via Decor Dots
If you’re really committed to this aesthetic, add a Shoji screen as a bedroom or closet door or as a room divider. These screens create an instant Japanese impression for a space.
The Japanese aesthetic is so beautiful! I love the calming effect it has, and it is achieved in such a simple way. The images you’ve gathered here are really beautiful, as always!
My favourite is keeping your bed low to the ground. I’ve heard that it actually has quite a lot of benefits for your sleep too. Would you know anything about that Kirsten?
If you had to pick just one of these aesthetics to add to your bedroom, which would it be?
