How to decorate your mantel for Christmas

We are kicking off December with mantle styling! We love these three simple looks.

Minimal Mantel
We love this look. It is incredible how much cheer you can bring into your home in such a minimal way. You can create a minimalist holiday mantel by having a single focal point above your fireplace, like this round mirror, a simple live strand of garland (by the way, order live garland through costco and get it shipped to your door!) and chunky neutral stockings. Adding some cut pieces of birch or wood adds the perfect hint of cozy. If you are traveling over the holidays, this is an affordable look to achieve to get you in the spirit between now and your trip.

Organic Mantel
We love letting nature sing in our home, but the reality of creating an organic mantle style can be done with real or faux greenery. The key, whether you decide to keep it fresh or trick the eye, is mixing the textures and type of greenery you are using by combining multiple varieties. If you are shopping locally for fresh greenery here are some beautiful combinations:

Pine + Cedar
Cedar + Eucalyptus
Juniper + Cedar
Olive + Noble Fir

If you opt to go with faux greenery here are some of our favorite mixed varieties to style here, here, here and here.

Fasten your chosen greenery across the top of your mantel and add extra strands to hang down each side and secure with command hooks or small nails.

The No Mantel, Mantel.
Don’t let not having a mantel hinder your styling. We love how adding a floating shelf to open wall space, even if temporarily, can give you the opportunity to hang your stockings, offers a flat surface to style up your favorite holiday decor and if your floating shelf is large enough, you can even use the tips from incorporate greenery on it.

You can spring for a custom made, beautifully crafted floating shelf like this if you’d like to keep it as a permanent fixture in the space or do a really simple DIY, like this, as part of this year’s holiday styling.
