One Room Challenge Fall + Week 2

One Room Challenge via Simply grove

It’s week two of the One Room Challenge, and I’m getting REALLY excited! If you read my original post, you know that I am redoing my in-laws living room. They mean the world to me, so designing a beautiful space for them is really important.

You can see (above) that they have a nice, large living space. The ceiling is vaulted and the whole south side is windows. The sun shines perfectly in this room! Because I am still mulling over the design, I wanted to share some key details that I’m looking to tackle in this space.

No 1. Pattern. It’s always important to me to have the right amount of pattern in a space. Even in a minimalist space, you should always consider sprinkling pattern in throughout. Organic pattern can be refreshing in any space. We’ve got that covered in this room. When I first saw this rug from The Mine, I knew it needed to be in this room.

No 2. Color. I am completely obsessed with specific colors right now. Jewel tones are everything. They look fantastic paired with gold, marble and black. This chair is what dreams are made of, and it’s going to SHINE in this room design!

No 3. Mixed Surface. It’s A OK mixing marble with wood with black metal. In fact it keeps a room from becoming too cookie cutter and boring. This room will not look like a show room

No 4. Comfort. Who wants to live in a beautiful room that isn’t comfortable enough to hang out in? You can have best of both worlds and live in a beautiful, comfortable room.

No 5. Light. Lighting is THE MOST IMPORTANT DETAIL. You can create a stunning space, and bad lighting can ruin all of it! No joke. This floor lamp is a winner for this room.

No 6. Layers. I love layering rugs, pillows and even drapes. You will see a bit of that in this room in the form of THIS!

No 7. Practicality. This goes along with comfort. Both equally important and needed in a well designed space. I always want my clients to know that I’m invested in not only the beauty of the room, but in the functionality and flow of the space.

Initial thoughts, initial thoughts! Next week we will be chatting scale and wall colors!
