The usual assumption with design is that it doesn’t blend well with family. In this industry it is not uncommon for me to hear of parents or families who feel like they need to hold off on pursuing their desired style until “later” or once their kids are grown. I’m such a firm believer in blending family and design. Creating a home you love that brings you joy is invaluable to your family!
Start to implement your style in a simple way like your coffee table! First, make sure you have the foundation of a cozy rug under so it is a natural gathering place that is comfortable for everyone. Secondly, choose a material for a coffee table that is durable and forgiving. A completely glass table may drive you crazy with fingerprints or a bright white ottoman may keep you on your toes! Next, layer accessories in a minimal way that add character but aren’t breakable like a wooden bowl, woven basket, one statement decor piece and large coffee table book. Bonus points for using a styling book that your kids will love flipping through but also has a gorgeous spine, like this one. Lastly, don’t sweat it! A home is meant to be lived in and loved. A little wear and tear is a testimony to living life to the fullest together!
